CURRENT ISSUES

Loss of Child Benefit

Is your household in receipt of Child Benefit and do you or your partner earn more than £50,000 p.a.? Are you aware that from January 2013 you may lose some or all of your Child Benefit and will also be required to complete a Tax Return? There is a possibility that depending on your circumstances, you may be able to avoid this loss in part or in full. Contact us to discuss your circumstances and see how we can help.

Payroll and RTI

Do you run a small or medium sized business and prepare your own payroll? Real Time Information (RTI) is coming from April 2013 which means that you must have a computer payroll package which can connect to HMRC in real time. Small employers with less than 10 employees throughout the year can still use the free HMRC software. These changes mean that once a payroll has been run for a week or month, all the details will be passed electronically to HMRC who will then learn how much each individual has been paid and how much PAYE and NI has been deducted and is due. For this system to operate correctly all employers must have full personal details for all employees (a copy of their passport is recommended in addition to current address verification) which will be validated by HMRC. Failure to validate will result in a payroll submission being rejected and a penalty will arise. We recommend that all employee details are checked and pre validation checks carried out prior to the introduction of RTI.

We operate a payroll bureau service and in most cases we can prepare payroll at a cost which is less than the annual software updates, stationery and staff costs if you do it yourself. We also remove another worry and concern and allow you to concentrate on running your business.
