What is a personal tax account?

Your personal tax account is a safe and secure place for you to check, update and manage your details with HMRC, online, anytime.

It brings together all your tax information in one place.

Whether you need to make changes to the tax you pay or have questions about when your next tax credit payment date is, your personal tax account can help.

The personal tax account gives you a quicker and easier way to update HMRC day or night, instead of having to call or write.

Why should I have a personal tax account?

It can be difficult to get to speak to someone on the phone, sometimes having to hold for significant time.

You can easily amend personal details.

You can see your PAYE and National Insurance Record helping you identify any potential issues.

From time to time we may ask you to log in to your personal tax account and provide us with information which we cannot get using our HMRC portal.

Where can you access your Personal Tax Account?

Go to: gov.uk/personal-tax-account

PLEASE NOTE: When choosing the type of account choose ‘Individual’ (do not choose ‘Tax Agent’ as this will set you up as an accountant!)
